Introduction:

Health and Family Welfare Training Centre (HFWTC) of our Institute is one of the 47 training centres in India and one of the three in Tamil nadu. This department is conducting various short-term training programs for the medical, health and nutrition functionaries of the Govt. Primary Health Centres. The centre is currently organizing and conducting various training programs funded by National Rural Health Mission through State Health Society, Tamil Nadu. All the training programs are focusing to improve the health status of the people especially those who live in the villages.

Vision:

Attainment of highest possible level of health and well-being for all, through preventive and promotive health care and universal access to good quality health services without anyone having to face financial hardship as a consequence.

Mission:

  • To develop the training capacity for providing human resources for health (medical, paramedical and managerial) with adequate skill mix at all levels.
  • To establish comprehensive primary health care delivery system and well functioning linkages with secondary and tertiary care health delivery system through attaining capacity building of all health human resources.

Main objectives of these programs are envisaged with the following:

  • Reduction of infant mortality and maternal mortality.
  • Prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
  • Population stabilization-Gender and demographic factors.
  • Access to integrated comprehensive primary health care.
  • Promotion of healthy life-styles.

Manpower availability:

The faculty strength of HFWTC, Gandhigram is superior to other training centres in the state. There are 10 faculty members as per the santioned list comprising Medical, nursing, statistics, Health Education, Sociology and sanitation. The faculty have the experience of conducting intervention studies and have published many research papers in leading national journals. Two of the faculty are with doctoral degrees. Having well qualified faculty with in depth experience our HFWTC have the capacity to grow and take up new ventures in taking up new training and research in the field of health.

  • Certificate course in community health care to MLHP (CCCHC-MLHP) Staff Nurses (4 months)
  • Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) Training
  • Skilled Birth Attendant (SBA) Training to ANMS/Staff Nurses
  • Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCH + A) to Staff Nurses
  • Navjaat Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (NSSK) training to MOs/Staff Nurses
  • Block level Cold Chain Handlers Training (BCCHT) to Health functionaries
  • Immunization training to District level Health care workers
  • Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMNCI) to Health and Nutrition functionaries.

b) Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) - 2 years

HFWTC, Gandhigram is conducting two year Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology course. It is a self financing course. Faculty includes Medical, Microbiologist, Bio-Chemist and technicians.

Initially the number of candidates admitted in the course is 15 and it has been increased to 30 candidates.

The course has very good laboratories for skill orientation. The students are also posted in Government Medical College Hospital, Dindigul and Kasturba hospital for practical exposures.
